Effective COMMUNICATION.

Sharing Our Story

During my time in Palmetto I tried improve our marketing to the non-Scouting world and our internal messaging. Below are a few marketing/communication examples that I have developed for the BSA. If we do not tell the story, then who will?

Annual Report

I have produced the past three council annual reports. As a DE/SDE I produced a district highlights sheet to showcase the work of the district.

Fundraising Events/Materials/Websites

Each year I design envelopes, invitations, programs, appeal letters and website to support our Friends of Scouting Campaign. The campaign typically has two signature events that host upwards of 400 donors each. Event Photos can be found HERE.

Council Website

As a DE, I built our current council website and continue to maintain it along with our Development Director.

Council Facebook Pages/Groups

I work with our Development Director to maintin our social presence. Every day via Facebook & Instagram we share our positive story with the community with local stories.

Monthly Newsletter

I launched our monthly council e-Newsletter and work with our VP of Marketing to create weekly leader updates (similar to the SE Packet).

Scout of the Month Highlight

Each month we recognize a youth member to highlight. This is often the most liked social media image of the month.

A Report of Scouting in Each School District / A Key Stakeholder

In 2022 we launched our reports to the school district. A four page document to share our story with one of key stakeholders of the impact our relationship has on young people.

Program Kickoff / A Leader Planning Guide

Each year I develop a Program Kickoff pamphlet and website to highlight the upcoming Ideal Year of Scouting!

First Responder Popcorn Donation Day

I moved our council from giving to the Trail’s End Military program to local first responders. Each year on one day we deliver over $25,000 to over 700 first responders from 20+ departments and schools. This has given us a great way to get local media coverage and leave a positive community impression.

I am the 6% sign

Every Eagle Scout proudly takes a picture with this sign following their BOR and this picture gets shared by the council and their parents

Fretwell Outstanding Educator

Starting in 2022, to grow our school district partnerships we went through a nomination process in each of the 15 school districts we serve to present a Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award. When then presented them at each district’s board meeting. It was a great way to tell the board the impact of Scouting along with building good will for presenting the award.
