Financial GROWTH.
Board of Directors Fundraiser
This is our premier fundraising event. When I joined Hospice & Community Care (HCC), the event was only six weeks away, with minimal preparation in place. Although I had limited time to influence pre-event planning, I made significant improvements during the event by driving board accountability and encouraging them to actively follow up with their networks. I also introduced a formal pledge process to streamline giving, resulting in $182,000 raised.
Third-Party Fundraisers
HCC has long-standing partnerships with groups that hold fundraisers on our behalf. I strengthened these relationships by connecting them more deeply to our mission. Events such as an RC Plane event, Red Hat Ladies’ “Halos for Hospice” fundraiser, a charity golf tournament, and a community bike ride all benefited from visits to our campus, where participants could witness the tangible impact of their efforts. Many were amazed at the breadth of our community programs, reinforcing their commitment for future support. This year these events raised over $20,000 for HCC with little to no effort on our part. Additionally, we started a new fundraiser with a Mac.Bid Charity Auction.
Gift-in-Kind
In addition to raising funds, I’ve secured cost-saving in-kind donations by matching projects with businesses, individuals, and churches eager to contribute in meaningful ways. For example, Carolina Power Wash generously cleaned our Veterans Garden before our Memorial Day ceremony. Another local business paid their employees for three hours of volunteering at our Caring Closet, strengthening their commitment to community service. Additionally, a medical equipment company donated over eight pallets of supplies, significantly expanding our ability to support families in need.
Appeal Letters
This year, HCC sent three appeal letters (Spring, Fall, and Year-End), collectively raising over $61,000. These letters were thoughtfully crafted to share our story and inspire action.
Grants & Foundations
While many 2024 grants were in progress before I joined HCC, I’ve sought new funding opportunities and strengthened relationships with existing funders. Notable successes include securing grants from the Foundation for the Carolinas – York County Fund and the John T. Stevens Foundation in Kershaw. I also completed a six-month application process for the Arras Foundation, and I’ve invited grant funders to our campus to deepen their connection to our mission.
Special Events
HCC’s traditional luminary tribute event, Lights of Love, historically raised about $1,000 from $10 luminary sales. By adding sponsorships and enhancing promotion, I increased event revenue to $10,000. Additionally, I launched a new event, Wings of Remembrance—a butterfly release for actively bereaved families. This event drew over 200 attendees and raised $13,000.
Resale Shops
While I don’t directly manage the Resale Shops, I’ve fostered partnerships with them at every community event. Understanding that hospice booths can be challenging conversation starters, I used the Resale Shop as an entry point, distributing gift certificates to spark interest. This approach has increased sales, inspired more donations, and built meaningful community connections.
Caregiver Bags
In partnership with a generous family and the Arras Foundation, we raised $15,000 to provide over 600 care bags for caregivers. Each bag is thoughtfully filled with practical resources, meaningful comfort items, and information designed to remind families they are not alone. This initiative stands as a testament to the power of engaging families we’ve served and inspiring them to become advocates. We hope this project will foster even more connections and inspire other families to get involved!
2025 Fundraising Effort - $1,000,000 Goal
As we prepare for HCC’s 40th anniversary in 2025, I’ve led efforts to enhance our Board Fundraiser, improve outreach events, and coordinate special initiatives to celebrate four decades of compassionate care and community impact.
